Company Description
Madras Fertilizers Limited (MFL) is a central public sector undertaking (CPSU) in India that is engaged in the manufacture of ammonia, urea, and complex fertilizers. It is headquartered in Manali, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
MFL was incorporated on December 8, 1966, as a joint venture between the Government of India (GOI), AMOCO India, and the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC). In 1972, NIOC acquired 50% of the shareholding in MFL. In 1994, the GOI and NIOC shareholding was revised to 67.55% and 32.45% respectively. In 1997, MFL had an initial public offering of its shares.
MFL has a plant capacity of 1,200 tonnes per day of ammonia, 2,400 tonnes per day of urea, and 1,000 tonnes per day of complex fertilizers. It also has a captive power plant with a capacity of 120 MW.
MFL's products are marketed under the brand name "Madras". It has a network of over 1,000 dealers and distributors across India.
MFL is an ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certified company. It has been awarded the "Prime Minister's Trophy" for excellence in production and productivity.
