Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is a central public sector undertaking based in New Delhi, India. It is under the ownership of the Ministry of Steel, Government of India with an annual turnover of ₹105,398 crore (US$13 billion) for the fiscal year 2022-23. Incorporated on 24 January 1973, SAIL has 59,350 employees (as of 1 March 2023). With an annual production of 18.29 million metric tons, It is the largest government owned steel producer. The hot metal production capacity of the company will further increase and is expected to reach a level of 50 million tonnes per annum by 2025.
SAIL has a network of 6 integrated steel plants, 3 special steel plants, and 1 subsidiary. The integrated steel plants are located at Bhilai, Bokaro, Durgapur, Rourkela, IISCO (Burnpur), and Salem. The special steel plants are located at Chandarpur, Haridwar, and Vishakhapatnam. The subsidiary is mjunction Services Limited.
SAIL produces a wide range of steel products, including flat products, long products, and special steels. The flat products include hot rolled coils, cold rolled coils, and plates. The long products include bars, rods, wire rods, and structural sections. The special steels include alloy steels, stainless steels, and tool steels.
SAIL's customers include the automotive, construction, engineering, and power industries. The company also exports its products to over 50 countries.
